Storytelling has been at the heart of Judy Maggio’s 40-plus-year career in journalism. For more than three decades, she served as lead news anchor and managing editor for Austin’s top network affiliates—KVUE-TV (1981–2003) and KEYE-TV (2003–2014)—building a reputation for integrity, depth, and community trust both on and off the anchor desk.
Judy’s passion for meaningful media has only grown in recent years.
Continuing her dedication to community-focused media, Judy launched the News and Public Affairs Department at Austin PBS in 2017. As host and producer of Decibel, an Emmy® Award–winning news magazine on KLRU-TV, she spent five years highlighting vital local issues and giving voice to unrepresented communities.
In 2022, she co-founded ATX Good News, an independent digital platform dedicated to uplifting, solution-oriented stories across Central Texas.

Drawing on decades of experience as an insightful interviewer, Judy has led dozens of high-profile conversations both on stage and on camera. Recently, she moderated live Austin events for the global How To Academy at the LBJ Presidential Library, hosting discussions with acclaimed author George Saunders and beloved actress/children's author Kate McKinnon. For five years, she also hosted Leadership Austin’s monthly Engage Breakfast Series, guiding in-depth, hour-long panels with local thought leaders on the most pressing issues facing Central Texas.

In 2019, Judy hosted “A Conversation with Austin’s Mayors” on the KLRU program Decibel. The roundtable discussion featured mayors representing the past 40 years in Austin, including Ron Mullen, Frank Cooksey, Bruce Todd, Kirk Watson, Will Wynn, Lee Leffingwell and Steve Adler.
